The fortress was build in 1229 by the nephew of Saladin to prevent a Crusader’s attack on Damascus. Many of the remains of the fortress are well preserved and you can get a good impression of the size and look of this massive construction. The view from the fortress is magnificent overlooking the Mt Hermon valley and the Golan Heights.
